What can we say about this couple?
LaQuinta and Jermaine are an example of why we love working with couples. Getting to know them and learning about how they became to be a couple gives us a glimpse into how God orchestrates two seemingly similar but different lives coming together and complimenting one another. Their love for one another flourished from a distance as they kindled their romance. They say that absence makes the heart grow fonder and in their case there’s no denying it. Now that they have been united in the same city and preparing for their big day, they have been enjoying growing closer, exploring more things together and preparing for a lifetime of firsts and writing new chapters in the book of their romance.
We had the opportunity to chat with them both to learn about what makes them click as a couple and one would automatically think that it’s their love for music given their backgrounds, yet after spending time with them, it became clear that the foundation to their relationship is their love for God. As such what attracted them to each other was how their lives represented worship in action. Knowing how to love God, they could in turn open themselves up to love one another.
This was evident for LaQuinta even on their first date. What Jermaine showed her was that she was important. Though she had established herself, he showed her that she was worthy to be taken care of and to be treated like a queen. She shared lovingly about Jermaine that it wasn't so much about the grand gestures, but the little things – opening of doors and putting her needs first. Jermaine has shown on more than one occasion that he is committed to her and would stand by her side through the toughest of times.
When asked about the most memorable moment in their relationship, Jermaine quickly responded that it was the engagement. The stage was set, literally. He had planned out just how he wanted to propose and with the help of a dear friend he was able to do just that to her complete surprise. LaQuinta described the experience as surreal.
She had joined him at church one evening for rehearsal and while there he had asked her to come up to the front to sing with them. Not really wanting to, she declined, yet with the encouragement of his friend and the other singers in the group she eventually gave in. Picture it. She has now joined them at the front of the church and as Jermaine is strumming the keys with one hand, leading the team in worship, he’s also bent down on another knee pouring out a heart felt proposal to her that left her speechless-- with the exception of a resounding YES. I tried to picture it for myself and wished that I could’ve been there to witness that moment. Music was key to bringing them together and has a definite place in their lives. This will be a great moment to share with their family as they grow in love together.
Well tomorrow, we get to be first hand witnesses of these two joining as one with God at the center of their lives. We are excited to celebrate the two of them along with family and friends!
